CAFAD 2008
Faculty Renewal: Challenges, Innovation and Culture Shift
Presentation
Description
Throughout
the past decade, higher education institutions in Canada have experienced a period of
significant change and growth.
Universities and colleges are recruiting faculty and academic
administrators in a highly competitive international market and are growing
increasingly aware of the need to think more strategically about their faculty
populations. During this session we will
identify the related challenges faced by Fine Arts faculties and departments
and explore effective and innovative practices for recruiting and engaging
faculty. We will examine the role that
academic leaders can play in shaping a culture that fosters faculty renewal.
One of the
key demands articulated by the newest generation of faculty members is an
expectation of work/life balance within a family-friendly work environment. The second part of this presentation will
focus on the impact of this issue on faculty at various stages in their
careers, on academic administrators and on succession planning.
